Phillis in London – an original new play

To accompany the release of the extract, the US Embassy hosted a discussion of the work with US and UK guest speakers.

Phillis is one of the few Black women to have a Blue Plaque in her honour erected in London; it’s at the site of her publishers in Aldgate. I gave the keynote address at the ceremony.

We’ve done exciting readings of the play at several events, including the Chale Wote Festival in Ghana.

I gave a keynote address at Literary London Society, Lost Voice Conference, 2021 – Portrait of the Artist as an Enslaved Woman: Phillis in London  https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/lost-voices-literary-london-society-symposium-tickets-159400875309#

We’re developing arts and education programmes with several partners including historical sites Phillis visited.

Other partners are the US Embassy, Benjamin Franklin House, British Library Eccles Centre,  Margaret Busby SOAS Scholarship, Patrick Vernon Every Generation Foundation, and Diane Abbott.
