A one-day follow-up session to Soho’s inaugural Diaspora Drama workshop, offering exercises, discussion and debate, exploring how first and second generation diaspora writers can call on both their lived experience of Britain and cultural memory of elsewhere in designing unique stories. Is there such a thing as a diaspora story, with common features, across African, European, Jewish or Muslim playwriting? And does a fractured cultural experience help or hinder creativity?

It was great to discuss various issues around playwriting and would be great to learn more about the techniques to structure a play. It was a very warm and positive atmosphere full of down to earth and genuine people. I was a bit timid on my way to Soho but I felt welcome straight away.
